Cardiff Healthy City Event

An event was held at Cardiff City Stadium on Wednesday 13th January 2010 to celebrate Cardiff becoming Wales' first Healthy City and a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) European Healthy Cities Network.

The event was a chance to celebrate the achievement of gaining Healthy City status and provided the opportunity to engage with partner organisations to help us deliver the commitment and develop the Cardiff Healthy City programme.

We were fortunate to welcome a range of eminent speakers for the morning session along with knowledgeable facilitators for the afternoon workshops and we are very grateful for their time and participation. Please click on the following link to see the event programme. Speaker Profiles are listed below.

In the morning session Dr Agis Tsouros, Head of the WHO Centre for Urban Health and Healthy Cities presented the WHO Healthy Cities Certificate to Cllr Rodney Berman. Cardiff City Football Club was also awarded Wales' first Healthy Stadia membership and Dr Matthew Phillott, the European Healthy Stadia Co-ordinator presented Peter Ridsdale (Chairman of Cardiff City Football Club) and Marc Cahill (Assistant Manager, Cardiff City Community Foundation) with a certificate and plaque.

We were delighted that despite the snow 110 people were able to attend out of the 220 registered and we would like to thank everyone who took part in the day. The feedback was very positive and the information from the afternoon workshops will be used to help form an Action Plan for the Healthy Cities Programme.
